Petrified wood fish

by: Bonsai Home

The price shown is approximate and based on the examples we have in the showroom

Each of these decorative fish is truly beautiful. They are made from petrified wood which, at approximately 6 million years old, has essentially become stone-like. Each is certainly completely unique. As with all petrified wood products, we purchase by weight (approx. £25 per kilo) and so we recommend popping in to the showroom to see some examples.

  • Dimensions (cm): 40-50 (w) x 12-16 (d) x 16 (h)
  • Materials: Petrified wood

Notes:

  • As a natural material petrified wood has large variation in colour and structure. If you require a specific colour, please inform us and we will attempt to source something specific.
  • Petrified wood is the result of having a tree turned completely to stone by the process of permineralization. All of the organic material has been replaced over time with minerals (mostly a silicate such as quartz) while retaining the original structure of the stem tissue. Petrified wood is therefore a three-dimensional representation of the original organic material. The petrifaction process occurs underground, when wood becomes buried under sediment and is initially preserved due to a lack of oxygen which inhibits aerobic decomposition. Mineral-laden water flowing through the sediment deposits minerals in the plant's cells; as the plant's lignin and cellulose decay, a stone mould forms in its place. Petrified wood is 6 up to even 20 million years old.
